The original black corset was created as a way to make smaller waists for women without thought to their well-being. They were made using real bone and were in most cases so tight that ladies would faint from lack of oxygen. Today's understanding is far more wearer friendly. It's used to shape a woman's figure, not restrict her airway. Giving any woman the hourglass figure she desires is the sole purpose of this fashion accessory.
While a black corset used to be worn only by 'fallen' women, they are now acknowledged as the norm. These may be worn on the inside or the outside of a woman's apparel. They're broken up into several different categories. Some have straps while some do not. There are actually also Overbust and Underbust versions. They are exactly what they state. The Overbust covers a woman's bust area while the Underbust strictly covers the midsection and halts just under the bustline. Some fit straight across the rib area while some are in a opposite heart shape under the bustline. Now and then you can locate a Midbust interpretation that covers just the bottom half of a woman's bust area.
